IKE
My cousin Patrick lives in Galveston with his wife Sandra. They moved there years ago from Canada when Sandra was transferred as a nurse down to the local Galveston hospital. In my opinion they are pretty extraordinary people since they decided to bunker down and wait out Hurricane IKE. They have lived through previous storms and living 20 miles inland decided staying behind was the right decision.... So when my uncle called me last night I was relieved to hear that he had news about his son and daughter-in law. Apparently Patrick and Sandra huddled together for close to 6 hours while IKE made landfall shaking their house and tearing the neighbourhood up with trees and debris..then the winds trailed off and the sun came out.... at this point they realized they were in for more.......they were IN the eye of the storm.....bracing themselves for the worse ..they prepared for more surges....knowing now they had no choice...there was no outrunning the storm.......clinging together.........they took a direct hit.. a massive tree punctured their roof making a large opening, the inside of the house flooded with rain and they lost electricity.... and when you ask will Sandra be back to work?...she doesn't know at this point since the hospital no longer exist!!!.................just awful........I am thinking of them today grateful that they are alive and wishing them a quick recovery...but I am not surprised by these two individuals ...Sandra is a remarkable woman being a cancer survivor and Patrick well he has tenacity......this is a guy who at the age of 12 accidentally chopped off his forefinger while cutting wood for his stepfather and calmly picked up his severed finger before going into the house and announcing he needed medical attention...remarkable!.........yes Patrick and Sandra are both survivors in more ways than one.....be safe!
