a new furbaby....( thanks Janet for that term)

My aunt and uncle had to say goodbye to their beloved dog Maverick in October after a large cancerous tumour was found on his backside. I will never forget that day because my Aunt Maggie brought Maverick to my house on her way to the vet. She was hoping for the best but knew from her medical background that this wasn't going to turn out good. I gave Maverick his last treat and a good belly rub before she left. A few hours later my aunt Maggie called to say that "he was gone"...she put him down because his prognosis was only a few weeks to live. That night as she paced her hallway in tears .. she swore to me that she would NEVER get another dog again because the pain was so unbearable....until today.....my aunt and uncle brought home a beautiful Samoyed puppy named DAKOTA....they just couldn't take another day without a dog in their lives...they missed the jingle of the collar, the patter of the paws on the floor and a heartbeat to snuggle up too.....welcome home Dakota...

Oh Camille, i know exactly how your aunt felt. I swore i was not getting another dog, at least not for years down the road. We were so devastated losing Sandy, matter a fact I still am. We do have this little cutie now, but she is not really ours yet. The breeder has her placed here on a trial basis. She has been here for almost 8 weeks and she is still extremely shy, so shy that she only wants to come out of her crate when my husband is home, barks like crazy at two of my daughters, will only go to the washroom for dh and one of our daughters, she is not warming up to people she has been around constantly for the eight weeks, not even me and im the one home with her all the time. We have busted ourselves to help bring this dog out of her shell, but we have spoke to many trainers and they feel the breeder should have kept her as she was likely born a shy dog and this is something that may never change. I don't want to give up on her, but i also don't feel our home is a good match for her, and im getting to the point that i can't do anything more to bring her around. She can't seem to adjust to our busy noisey home and honestly i feel she would do better in a quieter enviroment. Oh my gosh, your Aunts new furbaby is absolutely adorable, and all the best to her and im so sorry to hear of her loss, it is a very difficult thing.
hugs
